Lola and the boy next door

[spacer]

I’m definitely going to burn in hell..

[spacer]

Oh, that awkward moment when everybody loves a book and you don’t understand why…

You know that feeling, right? Well, yeah, I’m pretty much living it. I thought I would love it to pieces, too bad it didn’t work that way 😐

It’s not that I DIDN’T LIKE the book, it’s just that I didn’t LIKE it.. Does it make any sense to you, because for me there is a whole damn big difference.

Anyways, this is not Anna’s book-sister, this is more like the evil stepsister.. It  actually managed to  raise my blood pressure, unfortunately not in a “too hot to handle” kind of way.

I’ve generously given this book 2.5 stars because I love Stephanie’s style. Not only because I loved Anna but because I follow Stephanie’s  blog and I love her posts, her wittiness, her optimism, her joy of life. She makes me laugh a lot.. But Lola, Lola was just not right for me and I really struggled to understand why did all those people love it so much.

First I didn’t like (whinny) Lola.. Or (dorky) Cricket for a matter of fact. (Yes, I know you all love him but I just can’t understand why)
Then I liked Max.
Did you just have a heart attack? No? Ok then, Because i need you to listen to me.

I’ll start from the beginning…

Shatter Me

“Killing time isn’t as difficult as it sounds. I can shoot a hundred numbers through the chest and watch them bleed decimal points in the palm of my hand. I can rip the numbers off a clock and watch the hour hands tick tick tick their final tock just before I fall asleep. I can suffocate seconds just by holding my breath. I’ve been … Read more

Incarnate

[spacer] As beautiful as the cover! [spacer] These days I’m a bit out of sync when it comes to the books I read.. I like some books that others don’t, and I don’t like the books the others love, I feel like I’m missing something. This books is one of the books I loved, while … Read more

Hallowed

[spacer] Oh boy, what a ride. [spacer] Reading this book felt like flying with the wings wide open (not that I know how does that feel, but I can only imagine): I’ve been falling in love again with these characters, I’ve gasped at every surprise, I’ve smiled and I’ve even cried, I’ve felt Clara’s insecurities … Read more

Vampire Academy

If I had to describe this book really shortly I would probably say: vampire teen drama.. a lot of vampire teen drama. Not that this is bad, because I enjoyed enormously the way these teens interacted with each other, the jokes, the fights, the paybacks, and so on. Still, I felt like this was just … Read more

A Clockwork Fairytale

! Minor spoilers ahead ! Today I am just too lousy to avoid them, so please be careful and don’t read if you don’t want to know anything about the story. They are not big, but be aware that they are there. “The heart is heaviest when it’s empty and lightest when it’s full” So.. … Read more

Six Impossible Things

Six Impossible facts about me: ✔ not to want to read an Aussie book; ✔ not to love a witty main character; ✔ not to enjoy sarcasm and good humour; ✔ not to love young love stories that make me smile laugh until my cheeks hurt; ✔ not to LOVE this story; ✔ not to … Read more

Split

I finished reading this book a while back but I didn’t really know what to say about it. It feels a bit unfair to sit in my comfortable chair, living my ordinary peaceful life, and give my opinions about such an important subject as family violence. You read in the book about all those horrible … Read more

Deadline

[spacer] Damn, this book was insane! [spacer] I need a whole constellation lined up to rate it properly, because only 5 stars doesn’t seem to make it justice.. I loved every single word of it. “I guess in the end, it doesn’t matter what we wanted. What matters is what we chose to do with … Read more

Hunting Lila

This book was so damn cute. I know that the author’s intentions were never for me to find this story just ‘cute‘, but without taking in account all the paranormal activity and mystery, the book is more or less about this girl, Lila (one of the most innocent characters – as far back as I … Read more

Feed

I am used by now to read books that are great in the beginning, ok by the middle, and surprise the hell out of me all through the ending. Feed is that kind of book and even more. I loved how it started (with such a great adventure), and I loved that feeling I got … Read more

You Wish

Such a cute little book! Don’t know about you, but I remember being very silly while making a wish for my birthdays. A barbie-alike friend? Totally me! A room full of chocolate and other sweets? A Match Made in High School

I don’t know about you, but from time to time I like to curl up in my bed, with a cute book in my hands and not to think about anything – just enjoy it’s cuteness. Yesterday was one of those days – I was searching for something light and it was even more that … Read more

Daughter of Smoke and Bone

[spacer] I was hooked from the very first page.. [spacer] Yes, I can say that again. My mind is full of beautiful stories of angels and demons (is that the right word?), stories of love and hope, stories of mythical creatures in a war as old as the world itself… My mind is screaming: I … Read more

There you’ll find me

This book was really hard for me to rate.. I did liked it a lot (I simply LOVED some of the characters in this story), and it could have been a 5 stars book, but all that talk about God and prayers was definitely not for me. Let me get this strait, it’s not that … Read more

Anna dressed in Blood

My Thoughts: You know how from time to time you read in a book about a male character that you like a lot and you would just love to hear his version of the story? Well there is no more need for that, because in this case you get to hear his story – and … Read more

Shut Out

You know, this is a strange world we are living in. I always read some reviews here and there (about some books – not only this one) and I see people saying that [this] or [that] are not some books that they would allow their children read, because they include some cuss words or some … Read more

She’s so dead to us

Usually, wanting to punch all the characters in a book it is not a really good sign.. and I won’t say that this is not the case because in fact it really is. I hate horrible friends (all Ally’s supposed ex best friends), and rich kids with nothing else to do but to bully someone … Read more

Blood Song

Another Aussie book on my shelf full of awesome ;)) To be honest, it’s more like 4.5 because the last part of it was so-and-so, but anyways it’s hard to tell how much I loved this book. It’s great. This is one of those books that you take in your hands and then you can’t … Read more

Raw Blue

Why is it that we can relate so easily to pain, to struggle, to despair instead of happiness and joy? Past Perfect

To make it clear, it’s a little bit more than 3.5 stars 🙂 AND I think I’m becoming more and more exigent when it comes to the books I read, and I’m also becoming lazy when it comes to my reviews. This is no exception. So here come some random thoughts: When I think about … Read more
