Jennifer E. Smith is the author of ‘The Geography of You and Me’, ‘The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight’, ‘The Storm Makers’, ‘You Are Here’, and ‘The Comeback Season’.
She earned her master’s degree in creative writing from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, and currently works as an editor in New York City. Her writing has been translated into 28 languages.
Q: Do you always know where your stories are going?
A: I’m not a great outliner – I wish I were better. My favorite quote is what E.L. Doctorow said about writing: “It’s like driving a car at night: you never see further than your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.” I know generally where I am going, and what the next chapter is going to be always, but there are always surprises, twists, and turns on the way there that I don’t anticipate when I first start. ~ via PublishersWeekly
